Americana In Infrared Black & White

If it is possible to have your dream assignment, then mine has to include IR B&W. Every since I found this film about 15 years ago, it has been my choice for a vast majority of my fine art work. I have also been fascinated by the visual history of America, by that I mean old structures and abandoned stuff, both famous and obscure. Combining the two has created an incredible outlet for my creativity.

The main film of choice has been Kodak HIE High-Speed infrared 35mm. However, in the last year or so, Rollei had launched a new IR film. They call theirs Rollei Infrared 820c. I use it in the 120 format, and am quite pleased. I use it with a Hoya R72 opaque filter. It gives me a starting ISO of only 4, so breezes tend to makes things a little frustrating.

All images in this Gallery are available for purchase. All prints are hand printed by me, using the traditional B&W archival process. They are double matted with museum board, and limited to editions of either 100 or 50 pieces. Unframed prices start at $150.00 plus shipping. Matted, digital prints also available starting at $25.00. Please contact us for additional information.

Or, just let us know what you think of the images.

If only that one client would say, "We want you to document the fading history of America and Her people's creations in B&W IR". Ahh, to dream...
