The Dalit People of Northern India
To be a Dalit in India, is to be almost beyond hope. Although caste discrimination has been illegal since 1950, it is still practiced with impunity. Governmental corruption, along with 3000 years of tradition, has combined to keep the Dalit People (a.k.a. The Untouchables) from many of the better jobs in India. These beautiful, sharing people deserve better.
All of these images were taken in February of 2008. I spent a week in Delhi, working with an NGO based in Delhi. I spent that time with their writer, and traveling a few of the slums and bastis in Delhi. We interviewed a number of Dalits, from students to Street Sweepers. We hope to put together a few stories from this experiences.

All are digitally printed to exact standards, and double matted with archival museum board.
